Octavia Butler (1947 – 2006) was an American author and a multiple recipient of the Hugo and Nebula awards. Her internationally acclaimed novels that you might be familiar with are Kindred, Parable of the Sower, and Parable of the Talents (although there are many more!).
Back in the “old days,” I was an avid letter writer. There was no such thing as email or texting back in the 70’s when I was in high school and college. I had a few pen pals (one in England, one in Maine) and it was the highlight of my day when I’d receive a HANDWRITTEN letter from one of them. 
, I admit it. I laughed out loud when I saw this meme, but the fact of the matter is that there is SO much truth to this. In fact, I’ve just been staring off into space for the last several minutes, putting words and thoughts together to write this blog post!
