“It’s a Mother-Daughter Thing”

This famous line is well-known and beloved by Gilmore Girls fans around the world. In Season 1, Episode 16, Rory has just eaten a lovely meal at a fancy restaurant with her boyfriend, Dean. She orders dessert and one meatball to take home.

WAITER : One tiramisu, two forks, and uh, one meatball to go.
RORY: Thank you.
DEAN: You wanna explain the meatball?
RORY: It’s a mother-daughter thing.

When you read Feathers in the Sand (Seahaven Sunrise Series Book 1), take note that 11-year-old Eva Gilmore will say this same line to her single mother, Tess, but it might take a while (although it’s not in reference to a meatball!). When their story begins, Tess’s relationship with Eva has been strained to the max from working full-time and going to school to get her business degree so she can better support her family. Tess has a yearning to have a Lorelai-Rory type of relationship with Eva, but it just isn’t happening!

Find out how these two Gilmore girls in fictional Seahaven, Maine, find their way back to each other through the course of one summer in this friendly coastal town.

Along the way, you’ll be treated to some romance (for Tess), angels in the sand and new friends (for Eva), yummy Whoopie pies and blueberries on everything (for everyone), and some sibling This Is Us drama (for Eva’s brother Micah).

  1. Dear Anne Marie, lovely to read about you and your way to being a writer, a (step)mom, a grandmother and animal lover. I admire your honesty and your open way of writing about everything important to you. Thank you, you are an Inspiration for me! Warmest greetings, Trudy
