What’s Up With All These Sunflowers?

Our bright and beautiful logo was created by Trisha Cupra, our KaleidoSoul and SOS Cancer Journeys web designer in Australia.  She played around with all kinds of ideas for the “O” part of the SOS symbol, and we discarded all of them UNTIL she asked, “What about a sunflower?”

YES!  That resonated with me immediately, mainly because at the time I was on vacation in western Massachusetts in mid-August and I was seeing sunflowers everywhere!

But sunflowers also resonate with me because of that beautiful scene in the movie Calendar Girls where the husband takes his wife out to a beautiful field of sunflowers and tells her this:

I don’t think there’s anything on this planet that more trumpets life than the sunflower. For me that’s because of the reason behind its name.

Not because it looks like the sun but because it follows the sun. During the course of the day, the head tracks the journey of the sun across the sky. A satellite dish for sunshine. Wherever light is, no matter how weak, these flowers will find it. And that’s such an admirable thing. And such a lesson in life.

Calendar Girls is one of my favorite films EVER because it’s about overcoming adversity and challenge in a creative way that connects a group of women to themselves, to each other, to their community, and to Spirit.

So you will find sunflowers galore on this website because… we are all flowers seeking the light of the divine, the light of each other, and the light of our beautiful selves.
